Who Can Apply for Housing at Domus Arctica Foundation?
You can apply for housing at DAS if you are studying in Rovaniemi at a post-comprehensive education institution, for example:
- University of Lapland
- Lapland University of Applied Sciences, Rovaniemi campus
- a vocational institution
- an upper secondary school (general upper secondary education)
The following applicants are also eligible:
- international degree students
- exchange students
- students completing an internship as part of their studies
- apprenticeship students
If you study remotely through an educational institution located in another municipality, you are not eligible for student housing at DAS.
DAS follows the tenant selection guidelines of Varke (Centre for State-Subsidised Housing Construction).
Tenancy Agreements
Tenancy agreements are generally open-ended. For exchange students and trainees, tenancy agreements are fixed-term.
Continuous Application Period
DAS accepts applications throughout the year. Apartments become available year-round and are offered to applicants as they become vacant.
Your Application Is Valid for 3 Months
Your application remains valid for three months. You will receive a text message before it expires. By renewing your application according to the instructions provided, it will remain active.
Tenant Selection Is Not Based on a Waiting List Number
According to the tenant selection guidelines of Varke, priority is determined by the urgency of housing need, regular monthly income and assets. Available apartments are offered to applicants based on these selection criteria.
Autumn Application Situation
For apartments becoming available in August and September, priority is given to new students who are starting their studies in Rovaniemi for the first time.
If you are already studying in Rovaniemi and need accommodation for the autumn semester, we recommend accepting an apartment with a tenancy agreement beginning no later than 1 July, or applying for housing beginning in October, when more apartments typically become available.
Most Apartments Become Available in Spring
Late spring and early summer offer the widest selection of available apartments. This is also often the easiest time to transfer from one DAS apartment to another. Spring is a good time to apply for shared accommodation with a friend, for example.
Student Status Verification
Your study entitlement will be verified before you sign your tenancy agreement. You will receive detailed instructions together with your housing offer.

For New Students
You may apply for housing even if your study place has not yet been confirmed.
You may receive a housing offer before your study place is officially confirmed. If this happens, follow the instructions included with the offer and contact our customer service team if necessary.
Shared apartments are the most common housing option available to new students. We recommend making your application as broad as possible by selecting multiple housing areas and apartment types.
DAS cannot provide housing for all new students during August and September. However, apartments become available throughout the year, so we recommend keeping your application active and renewing it when you receive a notification that it is about to expire. [das.fi]
